Anemone Productions was founded by Nancy Nagrant in 2014 to generate work for film, television, and theatre with an emphasis on the female protagonist. By choosing stories in which women are at the center of the action, we diversify the storytelling spectrum. Through diversity we create opportunities for greater empathy and understanding, and ultimately a more equitable society.
Anemone produced three short films in 2018-19, all directed by Michelle Bossy (former Associate Artistic Director of Primary Stages) – MIRACLE BABY is an 18-minute drama-thriller by Steven Fechter (The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon) with Nancy Nagrant and Stephen Kunken (Billions, The Handmaid’s Tale); INCURABLE is an 8-minute comedy-drama by writer-actor Josephine Cashman with Carson Lee, Heidi Armbruster (Younger), and Marinda Anderson (New Amsterdam); and STAG PARTY is a 15-minute drama by writer-actor Sami Bass with Alex Hernandez (UnREAL, Hemlock Grove). All three films are headed for the 2020 festival circuit.
Anemone has produced the world-premiere of two full-length plays – THE BATTLES OF RICHMOND HILL by Penny Jackson played at HERE’s main stage, NYC in 2019 to rave reviews; and ROSEMARY AND TIME by Jennifer Fell Hayes played a sold-out run at Paradise Factory’s main stage, NYC in 2018. Both productions were directed by Kathy Gail MacGowan.
